Veteran actor Saurabh Shukla is all set to surprise audiences yet again — this time as an army man in Subedaar. Known for his impeccable comic timing and layered character roles, Shukla steps into unfamiliar territory in the action drama, playing Prabhakar, a close friend of Anil Kapoor’s character. And if his candid recollection is anything to go by, even he didn’t see this coming.

Recalling how the film came to him, Saurabh shared, “So, I'll say one thing I specifically remember is that when this film was offered to me, I first got a call from Suresh. We talked a little about the film and he said, "This is a film I'm going to make, and I want you to do this." Firstly, I really liked the basic premise of the story, and secondly, I understood that I had never met this character before, and I would never meet one. Because I'm playing an army man. Have you ever imagined me as an army man?"

The film is directed by Suresh Triveni, who clearly envisioned something different for the seasoned performer. Saurabh continued,"Right? So I said, "Man, this director is very high on his feet. If he can imagine me as an army man, then he can do anything." So I was very happy. And you know what? In the evening, I got a call, and it said Anil Kapoor. So I picked up the phone and said, "Hello, sir." Then his voice came, "Saurabh, listen, you're going to be offered a film, you shouldn't refuse it." [laughs]. I was like, and out of the blue, so this is what my relationship with him is. It's from Taal, isn't it? After that, there was a film, Kolkata Mail, which I had written a little bit of. I was also an actor in it, sir. I've been with him a lot. Time and again, whenever I've had confusion in life, whether it's about my profession or anything else in life, I've always felt back on him and I've always asked him."

That warmth and long-standing camaraderie add a special emotional layer to Subedaar. The film reunites two actors who share history, trust, and creative synergy — something that promises to reflect powerfully on screen.

But beyond nostalgia and humor, Shukla hints at the philosophical core of his character. He explained, "So, I understand the scope of friendship. What I will say about Prabhakar? Why, it's a very advanced character in this film. He is a friend, but he doesn't agree with his philosophy. Prabhakar has his own philosophy. But he doesn't agree. But he understands it. Because he is a man who is not adjusted to the normalcy of this world. To the corruption of this world. Where as I also come from the army, but I have grasped life. I have completely adapted. But a true friend stands by you even after disagreeing. And that is what this character is"

In Subedaar, Anil Kapoor plays Arjun Maurya, a retired soldier battling corruption and personal turmoil in Madhya Pradesh while trying to mend his fractured relationship with his daughter. As the world around him grows morally complex, characters like Prabhakar become emotional anchors — friends who may disagree, but never abandon.

Also starring Radhika Madan, Aditya Rawal, Mona Singh, and Faisal Malik, the film blends action with emotional depth. Produced by Abundantia Entertainment, Opening Image Films, and Anil Kapoor Film and Communication Network, Subedaar is slated to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on 5 March 2026.

With humor, honesty, and heartfelt insight, Saurabh Shukla’s Prabhakar may just emerge as the soul of Subedaar — proving that sometimes, the strongest bond in a battlefield of corruption is friendship.
